Biobased raw materials have been used for ages and were important pioneers in the success of petrochemicals. Regarding climate change mitigation, it is necessary to ensure that biobased alternatives reduce the carbon footprint.

With the EU Deforestation Regulation EU 2023/1115 the European Union wants to limit the worldwide deforestation caused by European consumption of beef, cocoa, coffee, soy and palm oil. In the presentation “Bio-based raw materials – it’s all about the origin” Elisabeth Meints will dive deeper into the topic and explain which deforestation-free products HOBUM offers.

But can this regulation create an impact on the CO2 emissions? In the talk “How to measure sustainability (fast) – insights & examples” Jan-Domenic Urbas will share HOBUM’s steps to Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) measurements and demonstrate the benefits in terms of emission savings by practical calculation examples.

Can sustainability be implemented in composites? Are composites with a bio-based carbon content of over 75% in the finished fiber composite possible? In his presentation “Industrial Bio -Composites, vegetable oil based epoxy systems from HOBUM” Dr. Jens Lüttke uses examples to show what is technically feasible. The resin systems are suitable for processing in conventional RTM systems. Either the dry fibers or corresponding prepregs are placed in the molds.
