Vegetable oil based binder system for battery research
Merginat ELO and Admergin acid, two products from HOBUM Oleochemicals GmbH, were successfully used as a sustainable binder system in the manufacture of next-generation lithium-ion batteries. In a project1 funded by the German Agency for Renewable Resources (FNR), the thermally hardened system consisting of epoxidised linseed oil and maleinised conjunctive fatty acid (sunflower oil) was successfully installed in a battery cell. The results were so good that an improved system is now also being used in another ongoing battery research project.
