Isomerginic acids are characterized by high reactivity, which roughly correlates with their content of conjugated double bonds. This makes these acids especially valuable raw materials for the production of coating resins such as alkyd resins, epoxy resin esters, high solids, copolymerized, and water-soluble alkyd resins.
Compared to conventional fatty acids, isomerginic acids offer the following quality advantages in paint binders and the resulting coating films:
• Lighter color, higher viscosity, and significantly improved drying properties of the resins
• Greater hardness and flexibility, as well as better
yellowing resistance and gloss retention
• Improved weathering and water resistance of the coating films
